After Multiple Rain Delays, Scott Sroufe Hits the Track

The start of the racing season has been a wet mess with 2 weekends canceling due to rain. Finally after the 3rd weekend, I finally was able to make some laps at Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, SD on May 7th. I fought an ill handling car all night but made it thru the night with a 12th place finish. Sunday morning the car was unloaded into the shop to check everything over and the ill handling problem was found and fixed. The rear end gears were changed, parts were greased and the car was loaded on the trailer. I headed to Casino Speedway in Watertown, SD. The night went a little better and we ended up with an 8th place finish for the night. All in all it was a disappointing weekend, but I made it out of the weekend with only a little bit of sheet metal damage.

The following week the car was back in the shop and put onto the scales for some suspension tuning and changes. The rain came back to cancel the races on May 14th at Dakota State Fair Speedway for the 3rd time this season. But the sun came out Sunday and we headed back to Casino Speedway on May 15th. The car felt great during the heat race and after battling side by side for several laps, the car pushed going into the corner and I was passed and ended up with a 4th place finish. A couple of minor changes were made during intermission. After starting 10th in the feature, I was up to 5th place and passing for 4th place a little more than half way thru the race and hit a barrier on the inside of the track with the left front wheel. After the collision with the inside barrier, the toe on the front end was way off and I started going backwards. I ended up with a 10th place finish with a broken race car. After checking the front end of the car over, I end up with both inner and outer left tie rods bent, bent wheel, bent spindle, bend shock and a bent drag link. Even though I ended up with a lot of bent front end parts, the night was a good night.

The car is now back into the shop to fix the front end parts and to check over the entire car for any loose or bent parts. The weather does not look very good for racing this weekend, but if the weather holds out I am planning on racing Saturday at the Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, SD and Casino Speedway in Watertown, SD.
