Reno, NV     May 29, 2011.  Jake Povey and his co-driver/crew chief Alex Baker competed in the Group T class at the VORRA Yerrington 3oo over Memorial Day Weekend. The class consisted of 12 other trucks that all had to complete the 300 miles cut up into three long laps of 57 miles and three short laps of 40 miles.

Povey and Baker left the line sixth at 10 am in wet and snowy conditions in the Group T class. They completed the first long lap, in a little over an hour, moving up three spots to third in class behind veteran Don German. The second lap was a short lap with no issues and had a lap time just under an hour, stoping for fuel and still remained third in class. During the third lap the truck began having small misfires so Povey and Baker decided to take the short lap to get to the second pit faster and determine the severity of the situation. It was found that the muffler was missing but the headers were all intact, the truck was back on the course shortly after.

They continued on their way to main pit, without issue until 5 miles before returning, when the truck lost its front brakes. The truck limped back to main pit were the front brakes were repaired, spare parts were given to Baker for possible future track side repairs, and the truck headed out on to their second long lap. Somewhere between main pit and pit one the truck lost the driver front brake caliper causing the front rim to be torn in half! Povey and Baker quickly repaired the issue and continued on with only three working brakes.  On returning to main pit and heading out onto their third long lap the truck stopped to fuel and the driver side front wheel bearings were tightened.

The truck made the fifth lap without issue, again in a little over an hour and continued on to the final and last short lap. Povey finished the race fourth in class and 13th overall out of 60 cars.

The team would like to thank all of the amazing volunteers and family who came out to help us through the cold and the snow. We would also like to thank our sponsors Torchmate, Bayshore Truck, Lube Locker, Twisted Metal Industries, Samco Fabrication, JT Taylor, Goodyear Tires and Fast-Aid for allowing us to help bring awareness to their organization. We would like to thank VORRA and all their great volunteers; without their hard work and effort we would not have these races to enjoy and compete in.
