Racing Pikes Peak is not something to be taken lightly. The utterly unforgiving nature of the road is clear to anyone who has driven it. In lieu of gravel traps, dense trees and sheer drop-offs line the course. It is not a race where you can push past the limit.

Lovells Bring Home a Pair of Dueces From Temple Canyon

Brad Lovell

CANON CITY, CO MAY 15, 2011 – Imagine that if for one weekend, it was legal to drive as fast as you dare on your favorite twisting, turning, mountain road and not worry about oncoming traffic. It’s not too good to be true and once a year the Temple Canyon road is closed to the public for all out racing. While it was Roger’s rookie year, Brad has tackled the road twice prior with a class win in Ultra 4. This year, however, Brad took on the Comp Truck division (unlimited trucks) in his #44 AMSOIL Nissan Pro-Light.

July 14-15 - Lands End Hill Climb, Grand Junction, CO

"The Lands End hill climb was the 3rd event in the Ultra 4 series, and was hosted by the CHCA, who also hosts the Pike's Peak hill climb. The Saturday before the event consists of organized practice runs and time trials. The race takes place on Sunday, and each team is given 2 runs with only the best time being used. My time at the hill climb was very short lived. On my first practice run the car blew an oil line and the motor developed some serious knocking just a 1/2 mile from the top of the 5 1/2 mile race course. Just when I thought I had all of the issues figured out something like this happens. We were done for the weekend, and it wouldn't leave me much time to get the car fixed for the Ultra 4 Stampede that was 4 weeks away."

Roger Lovell Takes on the Lands End Hill Climb

Lands End Hill Climb

"We all need a second attempt at some things and I am no different. Unfortunately off-road racing is not a game of second chances. The Lands End Hill climb was the 3rd stop in the 2010 Ultra 4 Grand Slam Series; a series that consists of the top racers in the sport. The race is 5.5 miles long with a 2500 foot elevation gain along a twisting, turning gravel road. One miscalculation from the driver seat can send you plummeting off the side of the steep shelf road."

"JT Taylor is the first ever Rock Racer allowed to compete in the world renowned Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.  JT Taylor competed in the Exhibition class and took first place with a time of 14 minutes 7 seconds, and a top speed of 86mph.  “I am so excited to be a part of this race, and then to have the fastest time in the class is awesome.  If I could send in my entry fee for next year today, I would!” smiled JT Taylor."

Lovell Puts Amsoil Pro-Light in 2nd at the 88th Pikes Peak Hill Climb

Pikes Peak Hill Climb

"Having always lived in the shadow of Pikes Peak, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb has always been part of my life. Not a big part though, I have never even been to the race. Having built a formidable racer for the TORC short course series though, this year was different. I never thought the V-8 powered AMSOIL Pro-Light would be competitive in the Pikes Peak Open class but I knew I needed seat time, especially after my pummeling in the opening rounds at Crandon." >>Read more

HILLCLIMB ROOKIE

"The world of everything off-road is opening for those of us that own rockcrawlers. Not only can we crawl,
but we can also race on rocks, in the desert, and now in hill climbs. I have heard a couple doubters ask,
“Why would you want to race one of those?” The answer? Because it is a heck of a ride and our overbuilt
tanks are surprisingly competitive with the dedicated hill climb cars.
Being that this was my first hill climb, I didn’t really know what to expect. We showed up Friday night and
saw everything from rally cars to methanol burning open wheel monsters. I was struck by the sight of plastic wheels, aluminum chassis, and 800-hp go-kart sized racers. We stuck out like a sore thumb." Click here to read on.
