Torchmate Racing JT Taylor Wins Ultra4 Torchmate Stampede Torchmate Teammates JT Taylor Wins and Jesse Haines Finishes 5th
RENO, NV Ultra4 Torchmate Stampede in Reno, NV on Saturday September 10th. The 130 mile Northern Nevada race boasted as the hardest Ultra4 race yet by promoter Dave Cole, even tougher than the King of the Hammers, makes the win even stronger. “This is a huge deal for Torchmate and this win is a long time coming for me. We knew we couldn’t let off and had to run a fast and consistent pace because there were 45 quality racers chasing me down… so, this is a big frickin deal,” said JT Taylor at the awards ceremony Saturday night as the crowd of racers cheered. Jesse Haines' Stampede Ultra4 Race Report
Well it's taken me a few days to recover from this year's Torchmate Ultra 4 Stampede. The Stampede is probably the biggest rock sports event of the year, next to the King of the Hammers race. It's a race I take very seriously, and our team invested an incredible amount of effort into preparing for this race. A month before the race my co-driver Gabe Strouse and myself spent a weekend pre-running some of the trails that would be used for the race. After that the car was stripped down and thoroughly prepped. The motor and trans were both in rough shape so they were rebuilt along with quite a few other things. As usual, things took longer than we had planned. We stayed up all night the night before the pre-run just to get the car ready in time to get it out on the race course. We put 50 miles on the car, and only found a few minor issues. With a little work the car was ready for Friday morning's qualifying. |

Jesse Haines Recaps July's Races
On July 9th and 10th I was in Donner, CA for the 3rd event of the Cal-Neva Extreme rock crawling series. The Donner Ski Ranch has been one of my favorite venues since my first event there in 2008. For one reason or another, the fans that come to the events at the ranch always seem to remember me and the crazy lines that I’ve pulled off at previous events. It’s a good feeling knowing that I’m a “fan favorite” at the Donner events, and I’ve had great success there. |

Rusty Bray Recaps This Weekend's WE Rock and TREC Races
What a crazy weekend! We just got back from Utah last weekend at the Ultra4 race and only had four days to prep the car and build a new front wishbone for the suspension and try to resolve the cooling issues. Jonathan Dawes took the car to his shop and Jesse and I worked on both of them there just south of Indy.

Amsoil's Brad Lovell Punted From Contention at American Rocksports Challenge
There is no doubt that the Inaugural American Rocksports Challenge will be the topic of conversation for a
long time to come. Held at the Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City UT, this was the first all out race to “We have never worked so hard in a weekend to keep the truck going. About five laps into practice I discovered
that I had no oil pressure. Thinking our weekend was likely done, I got a tow to the pits and we started thrashing.
We replaced the oil pump and a variety of other parts and it finally came to life just in time to qualify. The fact that
the engine was not destroyed is a testament to AMSOIL. With a strong engine we qualified 3rd and got some rest
for race day." |

Rusty Bray Wins Rausch Creek and Qulifies for 2012 Griffin King of the Hammers
Our weekend started off by qualifying on Friday morning after multiple rain storms! We ran the qualifier hard with Mike "fish" Hulfish running codawg! After a little mishap and the engine dying during qualifying, we ended up forth for the main event. We were right where we wanted to be because we could push or just stay with the top three and let them make the mistakes! |

And the Battle of 2011 Begins
Man what a fight! And by that I mean the fight against the calendar, the clock, parts and fab work! Then the fight against the great competitors of KOH and Mother Nature herself. I've been in some good scufs in my life but this has to be one of the best. |

Team Lovell Readies for the King of the Hammers
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO JAN 18, 2011 - The Lovell brothers are back for another attempt at becoming the King of the Hammers. After losing the race by a mere 28 seconds in 2010 and pulling off a 2nd place finish in last fall’s Ultra 4 Stampede, the brothers are putting everything they have behind a shot at the win. “This is our chance to get that 28 seconds back,” said Brad, “Not only have we made both trucks faster, but they are also safer and more reliable. We have the best team we could ask for and know how to play the game.”

Lovell Runner Up At Inaugural Ultra 4 Stampede
King of the Hammers now has a sister, and she isn’t pretty. The inaugural Ultra 4 Stampede race was held just east of Reno, NV on private land and is a 3 lap, 66 mile race. The brand new course features rough and rocky desert roads and 3 untamed canyons. There are no wide open sections of desert or rounded rock canyons, every rock is a tire killer and 3 laps easily makes the race as difficult as King of the Hammers. |

Reno Ultra 4 Stampede Report "The first ever Ultra 4 Stampede race took place just outside of Reno, NV this past weekend. 55 cars from all over the US and Canada showed up for a race that was the next best thing to the King of the Hammers. When Hammerking puts on an event and offers $10k for first place you know the big names are going to be there....and they were all there. I've been preparing for this race for quite a while, and had every intention of racing to win. The day before the race teams raced a portion of the race course to qualify for starting position. With all of the teams gunning for a top spot I figured my relatively underpowered car wouldn't stand much of a chance of qualifying near the front. I didn't feel like I was driving all that fast or pushing the car really hard during our run, but I was surprised when I found out it was fast enough to qualify 7th! It was a great feeling knowing that we would be able to start near the front of the 55 car field." |

August 28th - Prerunning/Testing for the Stampede "Although this wasn't any type of competition or event I wanted to share with you the amount of work that goes in to getting ready for some of these races. After the motor blew up at Lands End I knew it would really be a push to get the car back together in time for the prerunning I had scheduled for the 28th. First I had to pull the motor from the car and see how extensive the damage was. The motor was out of the car and disassembled the Tuesday after I got back. My transmission builder also suggested that I pull the trans so he could go through it, so that came out of the car as well. The bottom end of the motor was trashed. The crank was damaged, the block was damaged, and multiple rods would need to be replaced. It would be cheaper and faster to find another motor although I would still need to swap the heads and cam. I searched for a motor, but finding another one for cheap was not happening. I had to get a complete motor locally for $1250. I pulled the new motor apart only to find that it was in terrible condition. I feared that I would be stuck with that motor, but the junk yard I got it from swapped it out for me. The second motor was much better than the first they gave me. I spent this past week reassembling the motor, installing the motor and trans, and prepping the car. I worked every night until about 12:30, then worked all of Friday night and Saturday morning to get the buggy ready with only about 1 hour of sleep. The car ran without issues through rock trails and desert Saturday afternoon. I'll continue to test and prep the car in the following weeks to get ready for the race on September 11th. The race is expected to be the biggest thing in rock sports this year aside from King of the Hammers. I'm sure I'll see some of you there." Jesse Haines |

Roger Lovell runs over the competition in the XORRA Finals in Cortez, CO
"Owning and operating a race team is the hardest job you’ll ever love (besides raising kids, that
is). It’s 9:15pm and Brad and I have just completed what we term a “turn around” at our house.
That is that the race trailer has been unloaded, cleaned and prepped for the next race. Roger is
at home doing the same thing with the team’s smaller 20’ trailer this week. |

LOVELL 28 SECONDS TO LATE AT KING OF THE HAMMERS "The 2010 running of King of the Hammers was an amazing race. There were easily 20,000 spectators riding in thousands of RV’s and buggies. It appeared there were 3 camps, a vendor show, and race course hidden somewhere in the middle. We were right in the thick of it trying to prepare for the biggest race of the year. King of the Hammers is THE rock race and the point was not missed in our camp. Over the past 3 months my brother and I spent all our time and money gambling for a win and we brought it all. Trailers, parts, tools, radios, and a massive crew of volunteers. We showed up early, ran the course, tuned the trucks, and months of effort cumulated into a sleepless night before the race." More... Reno Rock Shootout and 2009 XRRA Series
